Great Walls of Vinyl, Part Deux

Great Walls of Vinyl, Part Deux is the next exhibition at E11even 2.  GWV will open on Friday, March 15th from 5-9p. This exhibit will be an optical mash up classic vinyl records with layered collage and graffiti elements.  Artist Garrett Weider presents the idea of covering the gallery with vinyl records (floor to ceiling) as his canvas.  Garrett says, “I want the show to be sensory overload, a lot to see, and make it a memorable experience.”

Why is this Part Deux?  Weider states, “I had a show a few years ago where I covered a two story wall with records, and the event and outcome was very successful. I wanted to replicate that idea, but fill an entire room.”  Each piece will be a cool $25, and this will be a cash and carry event.  That means guests will be able to take the work immediately off the wall and a new record will replace it, making the show a revolving and transforming experience.

Time Warp: A Twisted Exhibition

Time Warp, a new exhibition opening at E11even 2 will commemorates the 5 year anniversary of the Cleveland based contemporary gallery. Time flies when you’re selling art in this exhibition.  The opening reception is Friday, November 16th from 5-9p during the 3rd Friday events at 78th St. Studios.

Owners- Christina Sadowski, Billy Nainiger, and R!ch Cihlar set out to make a new body of work for their special occasion.  Each artist/owner created a series of work following their own interpretation of words “Time Warp”.

R!ch set out to build bottle openers inspired by vintage pop crates, a reflection into the past.  His works cater to the aesthetic of the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s logos and symbols.  He says, “It’s the feeling or memory of what we all call ‘Retro’.  My pieces will remind guests of years past.”

Billy focused directly on time, using clocks as focal point and building around them with mixed media and found objects.  Nainiger, states he’s always been interested in clocks, mechanically, and found the exhibition ideal for his style of work.  He also states, “Plus, they’re functional and decorative works”.

Christina, a photographer, shot landscapes with a Lensbaby circular fisheye lens to warp her images into complete circles.  Sadowski says, “The process was fun and tricky.  Trying to capture the essence of Cleveland in a new manner was exciting and challenging.  With this lens, I am able to explore new perspectives of iconic Cleveland structures.”

Reservoir Fiction: An Exhibition of Two Tarantino Films

Reservoir Fiction is the next featured exhibition at E11even 2 gallery opening September 21st from 5p-9p  Artist and gallery owner, Billy Nainiger mashes up his favorite Quentin Tarantino films (Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction) in this heist style art display.

Nainiger, known for his pop art influence and mixed media approach to his work, says “I am sticking with a pop art stylistic approach,  like my last 2 “movie” shows. I will be focusing on portraits of main characters from both Tarantino films. I think it will relate to countless people since both films are so well known and relative to my generation. It’s interesting to me to take footage from a film and convey it into visual art pieces that hang on a wall.”

Nainiger’s medium can be summed up as “Mixed Media”, but it’s a bit more involved than that.  Nainiger states “The portraits consist of many different styles and textures of papers that I cut out by hand with an x-acto knife and then it’s layered for a three dimensional effect.  One sheet on top of the next brings the portraits all together. Most pieces also include paint, pastel, image transfer and found objects. I’ve always liked adding many different elements and mediums to my pieces, but the main material is layered paper.”

Modern Guilt…. Who’s Got It?

Modern Guilt: New Works by Andrew Shondrick & Matt Miller is the next exhibition at E11even 2.  Modern Guilt is mix of ideas spawning from shifts in social values and constant over correction to the current state of the world in all of its good, bad and crazy.

Miller says, “Andrew and I met in art school while earning our BFA degrees at The Myers School of Art.  I think our mutual interests in Lowbrow and Pop Surreal Art (really all things deemed NOT “art school worthy”) as well as our stubbornness to only make what we wanted to make began a friendship that evolved as our personal work grew from intro level courses all the way to our final semester of advanced painting courses.”

What can guests expect from the exhibition? Andrew Shondrick says, “I wanted to take a step back and try to identify some of the subtleties of this liquid state within my own life and familiar surroundings. I am ultimately sympathetic to the human condition and our quixotic intentions. We have success and folly. We often muddle the two and can rarely tell them apart. We are doing our best, as best we know.”

The works will be in the form of paintings in the mediums of oil and acrylic paints.

These works will be on display May 18th – June 15, 2018.  The opening reception for Modern Guilt will be on May 18th  from 5-9 pm at e11even 2.

Reflections of Cleveland

Reflections of Cleveland is a photography exhibition observed from a new perspective.  Artist and gallery owner Christina Sadowski says “After purchasing my purple kayaks, dubbed “The Mermaid Squad,” I decided it would be a great idea to incorporate 3 of my passions- photography, Cleveland and kayaking. What started out as a “let’s see what I can get” took off into a “I think I can make a solid show out of this.”

Sadowski went out on the Cuyahoga River and Lake Erie at sunrise and captured the city before it woke up. The glass-like water created a mirror effect and the beautiful colors that came to life in the sky were breathtaking. Sadowski says, “I found beauty in the abandoned buildings, steamships and work zones. The skyline lit by the morning sun intrigued me. Being in a kayak allows you to sit extremely close to the water and offers a very unique vantage point. I hope that people get a sense of what it was like for me on those early morning paddles and can appreciate the serenity in these images.”

These photos will be on display January 19 – February 16, 2018.  The opening reception for Reflections of Cleveland will be on January 19th from 5-9pm at e11even 2.
