Echo – An Exhibition on Textures, Repetition, and Patterns

 

Echo is the next exhibition at E11even 2.  It explores the world of repetition, textures, and patterns.  Curated by R!ch Cihlar, the exhibit features 15 artists that focus on configurations that are mathematical, found in nature, or aesthetically pleasing.  Works featured will be in multiple mediums including, painting, collage, found objects and more.

These works will be on display March 16- April 20, 2018.  The opening reception for Echo will be on March 16^th  from 5-9pm at e11even 2.

Reflections of Cleveland

Reflections of Cleveland is a photography exhibition observed from a new perspective.  Artist and gallery owner Christina Sadowski says “After purchasing my purple kayaks, dubbed “The Mermaid Squad,” I decided it would be a great idea to incorporate 3 of my passions- photography, Cleveland and kayaking. What started out as a “let’s see what I can get” took off into a “I think I can make a solid show out of this.”

Sadowski went out on the Cuyahoga River and Lake Erie at sunrise and captured the city before it woke up. The glass-like water created a mirror effect and the beautiful colors that came to life in the sky were breathtaking. Sadowski says, “I found beauty in the abandoned buildings, steamships and work zones. The skyline lit by the morning sun intrigued me. Being in a kayak allows you to sit extremely close to the water and offers a very unique vantage point. I hope that people get a sense of what it was like for me on those early morning paddles and can appreciate the serenity in these images.”

These photos will be on display January 19 – February 16, 2018.  The opening reception for Reflections of Cleveland will be on January 19^th from 5-9pm at e11even 2.

RATIO 1:12

Ratio 1:12, a new exhibition opening at E11even 2 will commemorate the 4 year anniversary of the contemporary gallery.  The opening reception is November 17th from 5-9p during the 3rd Friday events at 78th St. Studios.

Owners; Christina, Billy, and R!ch set out to make a new body of work for the occasion.  Each artist/owner created 12 works that were similar but slightly different, hence the ratio of 1:12.  (Not to mention the 1:12 is a pun on the galleries name).  Each artist explains their approach to the exhibition.

R!ch – “I created a variety of sunsets and seasonal color changes around Cleveland’s iconic Guardian bridge for my series.  The initial idea sprouted from asking myself what could I do thematically around the number 12?  And the idea of 12 months/seasons emerged as well as a clock having 12 morning hours and 12 evening hours.  So my series shows those changes in the form of times of the day and months.  I like to think of them as paintings of sunsets/sunrises during the year.  There’s nothing more peaceful then watching the sun rise and set.”

Christina – “I took a photo trip to Nevada this past March.  While shooting in one of my favorite locations, El Dorado Mining Town, I decided to photograph the front grills of some of the vehicles. The cars of yesterday had such a presence and demanded attention.  Many of the grills were large and prestigious while some are modest and obscure.”

Billy – “The first thing that came to mind was the months of the year.  I’m approaching each of my works as one of the 12 months, basing its color pallet on the temperature of the month (as seen by living in Cleveland, OH).  Cleveland is known for having random weather patterns and heat waves/cold fronts that contradict the assumed seasonal temperatures or forecast.”

Cult Classics – A Movie Poster Exhibit

We all have our favorite movies of all time and some may argue which movie is truly the best (or the worst).  Welcome to “Cult Classics”, a movie poster exhibition. This exhibit explores 22 artists and their renditions of cult classic movies. Curator and gallery owner, Christina Sadowski, says “Movies are something everyone can familiarize themselves with, and I wanted to see what ways artists could re-imagine some of those cult favorites in the form of an art exhibit”. Original paintings and mini posters will be available during the exhibition.  This exhibit opens on Friday September 15^th from 5-9p at E11even 2 and closes on Oct 20^th.

Step Right UP!

Step Right UP! A carnival inspired exhibition will have guests feeling like a kid again.  E11even 2 is excited to announce its next exhibit to open on July 21^st from 5-9pm featuring over 40 artists.  Guest curator Leslie Edwards Humez, had this to say:

“Exhibiting artists were invited to create new work for this exhibit that leaned toward the nostalgic or surreal and drew heavily on their childhood memories: that magical time when things loomed larger, brighter, and more colorful.  Where the element of surprise provoked involuntary shivers, amusement parks rocked, and carnival kisses cost a buck.

In STEP RIGHT UP, there will be work with a sunlit perspective that highlights fun foods, midway wheels-of-chance, thrill rides, blue-ribbon competitions and more. Or (thanks to Cher) the work may sneak a peek at the edgy side of the traveling show with its gypsies, tramps and thieves who beckon us with crooked fingers into that unsettling neon space where flim-flam rules and fortune-tellers, floozies and freaks hide behind midnight faces.”

90’s Rocker Crashes Cleveland Art Gallery

On Friday night (April 21st, 2017), E11even 2 Art Gallery had one of it’s most memorable surprises yet.  Singer/song writer, Brian Vander Ark (lead front man of the alternative rock band, The Verve Pipe) crashed our gallery to give our guests an unforgettable evening.

E11even 2, was housing its art exhibit called Rock, Paper, Scissors, ROCK!  A tribute to all genres of Rock and Roll music, when guests were caught off guard to a live performance by Vander Ark.   He’s probably best known for his song “The Freshman”, but is a very accomplished musician/performer.   He played an hours worth of tunes including: “Cup of Tea”, “Villains”, “Photograph”,  and “The Freshman”.  Not to mention he played an acoustic rendition of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and Death Cab for Cuties “Into the Dark” (and more!).

We at E11even 2 thank our guests for their constant support of the arts and our business and we thank Brian Vander Ark for his musical talents and generous time.  It just goes to show, you never know what’s going to happen at one of our gallery receptions!

R!ch Cihlar – “I’m a huge fan of 90’s/00’s alternative rock.  Brian’s performance was far from forgettable.  His guitar picking, vocal range, and professionalism is unmatched.  There was a moment where my love for art, music, and business collided into one surreal memory.  It was a night to remember.”

Christina Sadowski – “It was great having Brian perform at  E11even 2 gallery on Friday.  He has such an amazing voice an it brought back a ton of memories from my high school years.  My best friend, Angie, and I played “The Freshman” on repeat.  I’ve probably heard that song over a thousand times, but it was really special to hear it performed live right in front of me.  Brian was so humble and spent time to chat with our guests. It really made for a special evening.

 

Rock, Paper, Scissors, ROCK!

E11even 2’s exhibition “Rock, Paper, Scissors, ROCK!”, might just have guests throwing out their devil horns and lashing their hair all while checking out art work.  On Friday April 21st from 5-9pm, nearly 20 artists will participate in this rock and roll genre art event.   Curator and gallery owner, R!ch Cihlar, says “This show highlights all genres of rock music, sighting a specific band, solo artist, or song.  I listen to music while I make art, and it only seemed right to show the influence behind the art.”

The title Rock, Paper, Scissors is a play on words for those who remember that hand game of picking one of the those objects, but introduces a new and modern hand signal, the rock devil horns. This exhibition will have an array of styles, mediums, and rock genres to please everyone’s visual pallet.

Rock, Paper, Scissors, ROCK! runs from April 21^st – May 19^th 2017, featured during the 78^th Street Studios 3^rd Friday events. (3^rd Friday events offer 40+ Galleries/Studios and nearly 180, 000 Square feet of art!)

Pure Imagination: A Throwback Art Exhibition

Pure Imagination is the next art exhibit reminiscent of the good old days at E11even 2. It opens November 18^th 2016 from 5p-9p during the 3^rd Friday events at 78^th Street Studios. Artists and gallery owners; Christina Sadowski, Billy Nainiger, and R!ch Cihlar explore their favorite childhood memories in the form of art in their next holiday show. Guests can expect depictions of toys, movies, and other 1980’s references in this throwback exhibition. This is a fun for all ages exhibition.

WOW! We were so surprised to hear that Cleveland Magazine awarded us Editors Choice for the Cleveland Artifact Machine and E11even2.  Billy, Christina and I (R!ch), work hard and play hard with our art and are so honored to be part of a great city.  There are so many great winners in this issue and we can’t be more excited to be part of it.  Thank you to Cleveland Magazine and everyone who has supported our efforts, visited our gallery, and participated in exhibitions.  We couldn’t do it with out your support.
